June 20 Rule Updates

Effective immediately, the following Performance Street rule amendments will apply. This is an effort to bring in more cars only and for no other reasons. This class has the potential now to become a "Junior" version of Super Street. Andy and I are very excited about the potential for this class. The existing racers should not be affected by anything here except the fuel rule, which needed to be addressed a long time ago.

1. Cross breeding (Ford engine in Chevy, Chevy engine in Ford, etc) is allowed with a 50 lb. penalty.

2. All Performance Street entries will be required to run a spec fuel provided by VP Fuels and available at the tech trailer. This fuel will be C16 and will be offered to Performance Street racers only at a discounted price of $12 per gallon. VP will supply the PTRA tech department the required fuel testing equipment to test specific gravity and this will be done at random and often. NO other fuel will be allowed. This will be strictly enforced. VP C16 does not have to be purchased from the PTRA, but it MUST test (specific gravity) the same as the C16 that is being offered at the discount rate.

3. On entries with 335 cubic inches or smaller, a single bar plate nitrous system will be allowed. No larger than a true -4 braided line will be allowed, as well as only one bottle. No bottles mounted in the engine compartment area. No retards, progressive controllers, or timers (digisets) allowed. All nitrous systems must be activated by a wide open throttle switch. No other method of activation will be permitted. Maximum jet size will be 65 and only conventional style solenoids will be permitted with one nitrous, one fuel, and one purge, directed away from the intake area. All entries using nitrous will be required to weigh 3100 lbs. These entries will also be subject to a cross breading penalty if applicable.

4. Factory EFI will be permitted on 6.2 liter and smaller late model entries. NO aftermarket fuel injection setups such as FAST or any other stand alone units. Tuning must be done by a handheld unit or chip only. No laptops. 90 mm maximum single throttle body or 52 maximum twin throttle bodies. NO bread box style, or sheetmetal intakes. only cast or plastic intakes. NO EXTRUDE HONING, (can only be gasket matched to cylinder heads).

5. On engines that never came with a distributor ( IE 4.6 Ford, GM LS, Late Chrysler Hemi) that use an MSD controller such as the 6010,6011,6012,6013 in order to run a carb MUST have all retard functions disabled in N20 combos under the 335 CI rule. All other carbuerated nitrous entries must use an analog style ignition without any retard functions. Digital type ignition boxes with retard functions are permitted on all motor combinations. No programmable ignitions allowed.

6. If a particular vehicle came with an aluminum block, it will deemed legal in 96 & newer entries only. Must be factory for car make and model.

7. Mufflers required. The 2.5 inch requirement is no longer in place.

8. Roll Cage: If a vehicle runs a 6.4999 or quicker without a full cage (including halo and down bars), the run will be disqualified. This will include qualifying runs as well as elimination runs. A 6 point will be required no matter what the ET is. A full cage is still highly recommended.

9.  If any combination becomes too dominant (i.e. nitrous combo), action will be taken to equalize the field.  This could mean the nitrous pill size could be more limited.

March 24 Rule Updates:

1.  In Super Street, a 4 cylinder entry may deduct 500 pounds.  A 6 cylinder entry may deduct 300 pounds.  Electronic fuel injection will be allowed on 4 or 6 cylinder applications only.  No programmable boost controllers or progressive nitrous controllers allowed.

2.  All roots blown big block entries under 500 cubic inches must add 100 pounds.  No superchargers allowed on big blocks over 500 cubic inches.

March 15 Rule Updates:

1.  ProXtreme 4.80 racers will count their best five finishes towards the 2010 championship.

March 7, 2010 Rule Updates:

1.  Excessive testing of transbrakes in the staging lanes is prohibited.

2.  Neutral safety switches and On/Off switches must be functional.

3.  Where appropriate, a suspension may include the vehicle, driver, and crew members.

4.  Helmet requirements:  Super Street, ProXtreme 4.80, 5.30 Index, and Pro Tree Eliminator entries running 5.49 or quicker will be required to have a Snell 2000 closed face helmet.  In all other classes, a Snell 95 or newer helmet is required.

5.  No antifreeze allowed except for Street Eliminator entries.

6.  In Super Street, a driver may be protested for ignition box.  Any driver's box may be purchased at the end of the race, or whenever the entry is eliminated, for the current retail price as listed online in Summit or Jegs (whichever is lower), plus $50 (no $100 protest fee is required).  The removal of the box must be supervised by a PTRA tech official. Any box disassembly must be done immediately and in the continuous presence of an official.

7.  Entries that have a yearly tech inspection sticker must turn their tech cards in to the official central tech location, not an official that happens to be nearby.

8.  No single runs during qualifying unless there are no other cars in the staging lanes.  The card system will determine lane choice.

9.  A minimum of (1) rear light must be ON during night racing or qualifying.

10.  All winners and runner-ups in Super Street and Performance Street will be escorted back directly to the staging lanes for tech verification.  All other winners and runner-ups must return to the staging lanes for contingency and tech verification as well.

General Regulations

1. All classes will be run on a .4 pro tree.

2. Deep staging allowed at your own risk. The starter will not hold the tree. "Sure Start" will not be activated on the tree, so knocking off top bulb during the staging process will not result in an automatic redlight. "Auto Start" is activiated so once all four staging lights have been lit, the tree will automatically activate randomly around 1.5 seconds after last stage light was lit.

3. Courtesy staging (both top bulbs lit before final staging begins) will be enforced. Although, if a driver stages when his/her opponent has turned on both lights, he/she has accepted that run. The starter will back the driver who turns both bulbs on behind the line for one re-attempt at staging properly. If the driver once again fails to courtesy stage, then the driver will be disqualified and the win will go to the other lane. Staging games will not be tolerated. Once three stage lights have been lit, the unstaged driver will have 10 seconds to fully stage before tree will be activated or he/she will receive a redlight. Once both drivers have prestaged, the starter will give ample time for final staging to begin. After that, starter will motion BOTH drivers into the beams. At that point, 10 seconds will be given before the tree will be activated and if either or both drivers have not final staged, they will be disqualified.   Only in the final round will the round be re-run in the event that both drivers get red lighted.  The word "courtesy" also applies towards the racers in the water box behind you waiting on their run.

4. Cars must come to lanes when called. After the third and final call, the round will begin. Those drivers who may be entered in multiple classes will be given enough time to complete their rounds. A driver can only enter one car per class. No two drivers can enter the same car in the same class. A driver may enter mulitple classes with the same car or multiple cars.  ***Any non-qualifier of a class with a qualified field (Super Street, Performance Street) may enter Pro Tree Eliminator at no extra cost.  No singe runs allowed during qualifying if two entries are available in staging.  Card system will be used for lane choice during qualifying if necessary.

5. Properly secured fire extinguisher is required on all entries running 7.49 or quicker in all classes.  On board fire system is required on all entries in Super Street and 5.30.  It is recommended on all entries.  Aftermarket axles, axle bolt in retaining device, and long studs required on all entries running 6.49 or quicker.  No "flags" on the front of vehicles.  All entries must be able to stage without interference from low hanging parts of the car.  Front ends must be high enough (3") to clear staging beams.  All entries must be at least 3" off the ground to at least 12" behind front tires.  You must stage with the front tires only.

6. All cars running a PTRA class must report to tech.  A yearly tech sticker will be available at any event for 7.00, 6.00, 5.30, 4.80, Pro Tree Eliminator, Street Eliminator, and Junior Dragster.  The cost will be $20.  However, all entries will be subject to spot checks anytime.  All other entries will have to report to tech at every event.  At events where host track bracket racing is held, those cars will only be teched according to regular track procedures.

7. Entries in 6.00, 7.00, Pro Tree Eliminator, Street Eliminator, and Junior Dragster will be placed on a sportsman ladder at the round of eight cars or less based on reaction times from the previous round .  Until that point, they will run at random as they enter the lanes.  Lane choice will be determined by the card system if necessary.  This system will be in place until they are placed on a ladder and it will be set for the rest of the event.  PTRA tech official will conduct the card system and has final say.

8. In 6.00, 7.00, and Pro Tree Eliminator, the first round bye run (if available) will go to the number one qualifier. In the Pro Tree Eliminator last round of qualifying, all entries will dial in and the closest to their dial will be considered low qualifier, thus receiving qualifying points (1st thru 5th). (Reaction time will be used as the tie breaker for qualifying.) After that, reaction time from previous round will determine subsequent byes.  Bye runs do not carry over if not used.   If the driver has already had one, then the next best reaction time will be in line. Once placed on a ladder, bye runs are set for the rest of the race, and lane choice goes to the best reaction time in previous round. Ties will be broken by closest to dial/index, then by mph for lane choice.  In the event that a class has less than eight cars for first round, but more than four, cars will be paired at random in the lanes and be placed on a ladder second round.  In Street Eliminator and Junior Dragster, the first round bye run will be determined by reaction time from the rounds of official qualifying.  In case of a tie, the first will be deemed the bye.

9. In Super Street and Performance Street, cars are placed on a sixteen car ladder pro style, i.e. 1 runs 16, 2 runs 15, etc. Bye runs are set for the entire race. Lane choice will be determined by qualifying for first round, then the quickest elapsed time from previous round for the remainder of the race. Ties will be broken by reaction time, then by mph for lane choice.  If 25 or more entries in either class, it will be placed on a 32 car pro ladder.  In all classes, a driver must win a round to be eligible for payout despite the number of entries.  In 5.30 index and ProXtreme Eliminator (4.80 Index), cars will be placed on a 16 car pro ladder if 16 entries or less.  Otherwise, they will be placed on a sportsman ladder first round based off of qualifying.

10. Bye runs must only stage and take the tree to get the win.

11. Once two cars are paired in staging, it is a race. If a car can't or loses fire, the pair will be placed at the end of the round for that class, or given three minutes, whichever is longer. At that point, the remaining driver gets a competition single, not a bye. Once either car begins a burnout, and a car loses fire, the driver will be given one minute to refire. The opponent will take the single run after the minute has passed.  At the end of a round, once the final car or pair (including a bye run entry) has been sent from the head of staging and into the burnout area, then the round for that class is over.  Late arrivals will be sent back to the pits.

12. In 6.00, 7.00, and Pro Tree Eliminator, no burnouts under power across the starting line.

13. No one without drivers license, or not of proven legal driving age will be allowed to operate a vehicle on host track property. Valid I.D. may be required if in question.

14. Absolutely NO ONE under the influence of ANY amount of drugs or alcohol will be permitted on the track (including drivers and crew).

15. Unsportsmanlike conduct or fighting will NOT be tolerated. Drivers are responsible for their crew members. Consequences may include but are not limited to forfeiting of all points and winnings.

16. Winnings must be picked up at the timing tower or payout window on raceday. No winnings will be mailed.

17. By entering an event, all drivers are releasing rights to the series promoters to use their names or likenesses in any media promotions for PTRA events. We want to promote you, the racer.

18. Any car deemed unsafe by the track officials for any reason will be disqualified from competition (including excessively ill-handling or dangerous driving). Event coordinator has final decision on all matters including safety, raceworthiness, legality, and unsportsmanlike conduct.

19. "Cheating" may result in suspension from PTRA competition. This includes but not limited to: using a timed throttle stop in an index class, using a nitrous progressor of any kind (manufactured or homemade) in Super Street, changing weight between the scales and an actual run in Super Street, or Performance Street, understating cubic inch in Super Street or Performance Street.  Any driver caught with hidden devices in his/her car, attempting to deceive tech or during qualifying or eliminations, will be suspended for one calender year, and be required to pay a reinstatement fee to race with the PTRA again.  Engine diapers must NOT interfere with staging beams anytime during run or pass will be disqualified.

20. Protest Procedure: In all classes, a competitor may protest another competitor by putting up a $100 protest fee.  Of that, $25 will be kept by the PTRA. If the protested vehicle is found to be legal, $75 will be forfeited to the protested driver. If the protested vehicle is found to be illegal, $75 will be returned to the protester, and the driver of the illegal entry will lose all points, winnings, and entry fees for that event and may be subject to a suspension or permenent expulsion from the PTRA and all PTRA sanctioned events in the future. Random spot checks can and will take place throughout all events to check for progressive controllers in Super Street, the usage of timed throttle stops in the index classes, etc. A cubic inch protest must be made within ten minutes of the end of the last qualifying round. All protests must be made by a competitor entered in the same class on the day of the event. At all events, any Super Street or Performance Street competitor is subject to a P and G cubic inch test.  In Performance Street, all new entries or changed combinations, i.e. PTRA seals broken, must be P & G tested prior to qualifying.  In the event that an entry tests over the limit (421 c.i. small block, 471 c.i. big block), the driver will have the option to tear down and be measured.  Timing may not guarantee the ability to race that day.  As an option, competitors that fall in this category may contact the PTRA and two officials can schedule a P & G and/or measuring appointment prior to an event.  In all classes, random spot checks can and will be performed in the staging lanes.  The protest procedure will require the protesting party to fill out a signed form.

21. If an event is ended before completion after second round has been completed,   the purse will be split evenly between the remaining drivers of each category and points will stop accumulating at the last completed round of competition for a class.   The PTRA and the host track has final decision on whether a race will be rescheduled or cancelled.  If a class is down to the finals, then both drivers will receive runner-up bonus points (20) in addition to their round win points up to that point.  If a class is down to the semifinals, all three or four drivers will receive semifinal bonus points (5) in addition to their round win points up to that point.  Otherwise only points accumulated thus far will be awarded in the event of a rainout or cancellation.  If the event is cancelled before the end of second round, track and PTRA will make a determination based on schedules, time of season, etc.  If an event is cancelled before the date due to a pending bad forecast or other problem, it may or may not be rescheduled.

23.  Once the final qualifying round has begun for a particular category, no break passes/tech card refunds will be granted for that class.  If a tech card refund is given, that entry's qualifying pass will be stricken from the qualifying sheets and only enter points for the event will be awarded.  If an entry arrives late for a qualifying attempt and the next class has begun, the entry will be allowed to make a "shake down" run that will not be counted towards qualifying.  Once the next class has ended its session, no run will be allowed at all unless that entry has not taken the tree at that event.
