PIEDMONT DRAGWAY PTRA

Scott Evert brought his Stackpole powered Mustang to Top Street and waded through one of the toughest fields of all time.  He faced Brad Edwards in the final and won a crazy pedal-fest when he overpowered the track off the line and Edwards stood straight up.  What a show...

"Uncle" George Bostick won 5.30 in only the third time out with his new car after switching from 6.00.  He got by Charlie Gilbert in the final and put down several dead on 5.30 passes during the night.

Chris Ellington won two True Street finals.  In the Rockingham delayed final, he faced Greg Herndon.  In the Piedmont final, he was to face Rob Roberts.  Roberts broke during the burnout while Ellington clicked off another 5.60's pass.

Gordon Langley matched side by side .01 reaction times with Jeremy McSwain in the 6.00 final.  Langley won a double breakout.

Michael Sanders also matched .01 reaction times with his final round opponent, Larry Dowless.  And, he also won a double breakout affair to take the 7.00 win.

Young talent Lyle Barnett never let up in Pro Tree Eliminator, taking the hard earned final round win over veteran David Dry.

Cooter McSwain led the McSwain family at Piedmont taking the Pro Tree Junior Dragster title over PTRA regular Jamie Farrell.  Cooter took the win in Junior, Uncle Jeremy took the runner-up in 6.00, and Dad Dale got down to the semis in Pro Tree Eliminator.  A good day at the track for the McSwain Family Farms.

ROCKINGHAM PTRA

In the rain delayed Top Street final, held at Piedmont, 2007 champion Brad Edwards won a .00 margin victory over the always tough Jeremy McElrath.

"Iceman" Chad Christy took out a killer 5.30 field at the Rock, saving the best of the day for last.  He squeezed by Michael Martin for the final round victory.

Chris Ellington also won the Rockingham delayed True Street final held at Piedmont.  He got by the big inch Ford of Greg Herndon.

Bobby Houston Jr. is back where he left off in 2007, taking out the biggest 6.00 field in PTRA history.  He won the final over the very familiar by now, Jeremy McSwain.

Jeff Knox had his work cut out for him in a huge 7.00 field.  In a great final, he got by PTRA regular Kevin Robinson.

Wes Thompson survived  seven rounds of Pro Tree Eliminator action to win the final over Mustang driver Dale Sanders.

138 Entries fight the weather and win at Pageland on April 12.

Jason Richards brought out this brand new Camaro and not only won the Top Street final over the always tough Derrick Sercy, he also reset the Top Street ET record during first round with a wild 4.976.  Brad Edwards owned the new record for a while after posting a 5.01 during qualifying.  The 4.976 puts Richards as the first entry into the Atlantic Racing Top Street 4 Second Club.  Another $200 bonus was added by presenting sponsor Meineke Car Care Center.

Gary Whipple took the 5.30 honors after getting by the Lenco shifted small block Vega of Archie Owens in a very impressive all small block final.

Robin Roberts took the completely all Ford True Street final by a margin of victory of .0000 over MPH record holder Greg Herndon.  That means it was decided by only one hundred thousandth of a second.

Wayne Montgomery took the all small block 6.00 final round over Foxfire Coatings divisional leader Jeremy McSwain.  These two had to get by some of the best index racers in the Southeast.

Pageland heavy hitter Aaron Brock faced one of the best in 7.00 competition for the final round victory-Thad Cook.

Two of the most recognized names in PTRA waded through five rounds of Pro Tree Eliminator to meet up in the final.  Mike Sanders squeaked by Jerry Cline for the win to start the year off right.  Sanders also got down to the semis in 7.00.

Landon Russell took the Pro Tree Junior Dragster final over Cooter McSwain

Foxfire Coatings Divisional Series started up at Pageland on March 22.

Jeremy McSwain started the year out strong by taking the win and early Division points lead.  In a priceless final round matchup between 2007 one and two points finishers, McSwain got the win light over reigning champion Danny Caldwell.  Heath Daniel and Jason Richards were the semifinalists.

Kevin Robinson once again made it look easy all night, wrapping up the evening in a major tough final round with Scott Smith.  Robinson grabbed the early Division points lead.  Semifinalists included Mike Hager and Ken Multer.

Performance Street rules are posted on the "rules" page.  This hot new heads-up eliminator will be contested at the Foxfire Coatings Divisional events.  On March 22 at Pageland Dragway, these machines will be testing in a Chicago style match race format with the top two qualifiers going at it for $200.  This truely "budget" oriented class should fill the void in heads-up drag racing.  More info to come soon.

Owen Teague and family in the winners circle after winning the index gamblers race at Peidmont on February 10.

Owen Teague faced Michael Sanders in the final at Peidmont.  Only .021 separated them on the big end.  Semifinalists were Don Anderson and Travis Harvey.  Quarter-finalists included Timmy Love, Dale Sanders, Greg Newton, and Michael Brady.  Great job by everyone.

Note:  The Wilkesboro Raceway Park date has been changed to May 24.

Over 250 people attended the PTRA 2007 Awards Banquet.  What a night of fun and enjoyment as the cameras rolled for the upcoming cable television broadcast.  Below is a shot of Top Street Champion Brad Edwards' new look for 2008.  Thanks to the Hilton University Plaza for a great facility.

***On July 18, the night before the Piedmont Dragway PTRA event, we will run the Index Shootouts for the top eight in 2007 points in 5.30, 6.00, 7.00, and Pro Tree Eliminator.  Piedmont and the McCandless family will also provide barbeque and liquids for the PTRA Half Way Party on Friday night.  This should be lots of fun for everyone.
